6.30pm: In Conversation with the Quarrymen
Rod Davies and Colin Hanton were core members of the Quarrymen, a skiffle band formed by John Lennon in 1956; a band that would see three of the world’s most famous musicians play together for the first time The other musicians being Paul McCartney and George Harrison who, alongside Lennon (and later Ringo Starr), would go on to form the biggest band the world has seen, The Beatles. Come and hear Rod and Colin recount memories and anecdotes from an important time in the UK’s musical history, when skiffle bridged the gap between jazz and rock n roll.
8pm: The Quarrymen
Rod Davies and Colin Hanton, original members of John Lennon’s first band, will play alongside Henry Duff Lowe (son of their old pianist, John Duff Lowe) and Beatles author David Bedford in this must-see event for all Beatles fans and music lovers. Performing music that inspired and influenced the world’s most famous group, Burnham Book Festival is incredibly excited to bring you a night of entertainment and nostalgia, with skiffle and early rock n’ roll from The Quarrymen.
