Philip Tonkyn – Ancient Landscapes Online Exhibition

Event Details

We are delighted to present Philip Tonkyn’s Exhibition: Ancient Landscapes as part of our early online visual arts work.  Thank you Philip for allowing us the opportunity to showcase this work and for your tremendous effort and hard work.  As with all our digital artists, we are looking forward to welcoming them back to our Gallery in the future when it is safe for us to open our doors.

“These panoramic photographs are my response to the mysterious and timeless spirit of ancient landscapes, to which I am endlessly drawn.

They are created by merging up to forty-nine overlapping images, covering a far wider view than can be seen in a single glance. They combine extreme dynamic range with a close intensity of detail; to me they are liminal landscapes of memory.

I initially studied sculpture at Somerset College of Art and later specialised as an air-brush artist, illustrating many record and book covers for artists including the rock band Hawkwind and authors Brian Aldiss, Frederick Pohl and Robert Heinlein. I taught art in London and North Devon and was Director of Art at Portsmouth Grammar School from 1988 to 2003. I have an MA in Art Education and am a Member of the Society of Industrial Artists and Designers.”

These limited edition prints are produced on exhibition quality cotton rag paper with archival non fading inks.
