A Stamp on Injustice

27th Feb 2024

Nick Wallis is a freelance investigative journalist, and has been following the story of what is now said to be “the greatest miscarriage of justice in British history” since 2010. Consulting on three BBC Panoramas about the Post Office scandal, writing for Private Eye and even presenting the BBC Radio 4 series ‘The Great Post Office Trial’- produced by Bob Nicholson – even writing ‘The Great Post Office Scandal’, published in September 2021. But nothing could ever have prepared him for the public response to the recent ITV series ‘Mr Bates vs The Post Office’.

It seems that everywhere we look, The Post Office Scandal is being debated and Nick has quickly become a household name. But, for those who may have missed the noise this is the true story of how hundreds of innocent people fought to clear their names after being pursued by the Post Office through the criminal courts. Respected members of their communities were stripped of their jobs and livelihoods. Many faced financial ruin, either succumbing to bankruptcy or relying on the generosity of friends and family to repay unjust debts demanded by the Post Office. The most unfortunate among them were sent to prison.

On this one-of-a-kind tour Nick takes to the stage to share the twists and turns of the saga and he’s heading to The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre in Burnham-on-Sea this spring – with special guest Tim Brentnall. Tim Brentnall managed the Roch Post Office in Pembrokeshire and faced a false accounting conviction in 2010. His conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeal on July 19th 2021
Nick is set to share his experiences of meeting with Sub Postmasters, gathering evidence and testimonies from confidential sources within both Fujitsu and The Post Office. He will delve into insights from his bestselling book during the presentation.

To conclude the evening, the audience will be given a chance to delve deeper into specific areas of interest with a Q&A.
